イ・カンホ

イ・カンホは、韓国のソウルと済州を拠点に活動しています。2007年に弘益大学で金属工芸とデザインを専攻し、学士号を取得しました。子供の頃、手作業で物を作ることに大きな喜びを感じたイ・カンホにとって、それは自身の祖父を思い起こさせるものでした。農業を営んでいた祖父は、身近な自然素材を使って日用品を絶えず作り出していたのです。彼は、祖父が日常の物を見つめるその視点に共感し、自身も同じように、もっとも平凡なものに新たな意味と機能を与えることを目指し始めました。

Kwangho Lee

Kwangho Lee lives and works in Seoul & Jeju, South Korea, having received his Bachelor of Arts in 2007 from Hongik University, majoring in Metal Art & Design. Making things by hand was a great joy as a child, reminding him of his grandfather who, a farmer himself, constantly made daily household goods from natural materials found nearby. Lee appreciated the way he looked at everyday objects and thus began to approach things in similar ways; to give new meaning and function to the most ordinary.

この作品はフックの機能を持ちながら、使用されていないときには石の重さや形、バランスを美しく表現しています。石の特性や素材感を示しながらも、加工によって生み出された小さな円柱は固定されておらず、その動きが庵治石の重さではなく、むしろ軽やかさを感じさせます。

This piece embodies the function of a hook, but when it is not in use, it beautifully captures the weight, form, and balance of the stone. While showing the characteristics and material of the stone, the small cylinders created through processing are not fixed in place, and their movement evokes the word lightness instead of the heaviness of the material.

私の作品は小さな単位から始まります。小さな結び目が集まって特定の形を作り出します。このブックエンドにも、ひとつの作品の中に無数の結び目のパターンがあり、それ自体がオブジェとなり得ますし、複数の作品が集まることで様々な用途を生み出すことができます。ブックエンドとしても、単体でも目を引く存在となるでしょう。

My original work starts from small units. Small knots come together to create a specific shape. This bookend also has numerous knot patterns in one piece, and it can serve as an object in itself, and when numerous pieces come together, it can create a variety of uses. It can be an eye-catching existence as a bookend or on its own.
