シャビエル・マニョサは、「Apparatu」というデザインスタジオと陶芸工房、そして家族経営の企業の中心人物です。陶芸工房では、クラフトと産業、芸術の狭間にあるオブジェを制作しています。 彼らは、陶芸を基盤にしながらも他の素材を融合させ、技術的で革新的な要素を取り入れた新しい装飾のコンセプトに取り組んでいます。キッチンやダイニング用の手作りの陶器を制作しており、すべての作品に個性を反映させています。 マニョサは、伝統的な陶芸と工業デザインが相反するものだとは考えていません。技術とは、常に存在する道具のようなものであり、作業には道具が必要だからです。 「技術は工芸から遠いもののように見えるかもしれませんが、実は一体となったものなのです。技術は、私が必要とし、潜在する能力を高めてくれるものです。やりたいことを実現するための手助けなのです」と彼は語ります。 また、彼は工芸も楽しみ、常に過去の作品からインスピレーションを得ています。「ある技術を新しいものとして捉えても、それが実は2000 年前に生まれたものだと気付くこともあります。時には歴史に立ち返ることで、新しい発見をしているわけではないと理解することも大切です。」

Xavier Mañosa, is the face behind “Apparatu, a design studio, a ceramic workshop and a family business that creates objects that are situated between the world of craftsmanship, industry and art. They work on a new concept of decoration based on ceramics, in some cases fused with other materials, with technological and innovative features. They make handcrafted ceramics for the kitchen and dining room, with personal touches applied to each object.” Mañosa does not believe that traditional ceramics and industrial design are mutually exclusive. Technology is a tool, something that has always been there. You need tools to work with. It may seem like something removed from the craft, but it’s actually intrinsic. “With technology, I feel it as something I need, something that enhances my natural abilities, to do what I want to do.” However, he also enjoys craftsmanship and always studies the past for inspiration. “I approach a certain technology thinking it’s new. Then you realize it was made 2000 years ago. Sometimes it’s good to go back in history to realize that you’re not discovering much.”
